Stay Tuned: Backyard Wedding Enchantment Series Is Coming Your Way!

Hello Beauties!

Exciting news: Today we are kicking off a new Marisa Nicole Events blog series! In the coming weeks we will be sharing lots of hints and tips on organizing, designing and building a magical backyard wedding!

Here at Marisa Nicole, we pride ourselves on our unique ability to transform almost any outdoor space into a swoon-worthy backdrop for all kinds of events. This blog series will help guide you through the process of turning a backyard (or blank outdoor event space) into an enchanting wedding oasis!

As you can imagine, there is a ton of work that goes into turning a part of someone’s home into a wedding space that is both logistically sound and brings your aesthetic vision to life: from cleaning up and removing personal items to dealing with power and water issues, and from landscaping to installing décor–backyard weddings can be a bear to organize and execute! But have no fear, in the coming weeks we will give you the 411 on everything you need to think through including aesthetics (bringing your look & feel to life in the confines of the space), bar logistics (making sure you have every bottle, tool and piece of glass you need to keep the liquid flowing all night), rentals and power (from generators to restrooms and lighting to dance-floors, we’ll give you tools for navigating these decisions!), and much more…

Stay tuned for more of this series and info on executing the perfect backyard fête!

Don’t Forget The Packing List: An Organized Gal’s Best Friend!

Summer is finally here and it seems as if no matter where you turn, people are getting married! Everyone knows that tight organization is vital to producing a seamless event, so with wedding season in full swing, we are here to share a little organizational tip with you! While brides may think they are completely prepared with their various spreadsheets and timelines, there is one last thing that is essential in preparing for the wedding day shuffle, and that is the ever-so-important “packing list”! Weddings contain so many details to keep track of: from table decor to signs galore, and no bride can be expected to remember every necessary item at their wedding without a little help! This is where a super detailed packing list comes in.

Sometimes venues only allow a short set-up time frame, so it is essential to ensure everything you need is present and ready for quick installation. Other, more DIY intensive weddings, require a laundry list of items needed such as hanging tools, easels, ribbon, etc! As you can see, each and every detail that goes into styling a vignette is vital to creating a perfectly balanced aesthetic scene: signage and sign support, photos, fruit, vases, string décor…We could go on and on, but I think you get the point! Having these details compiled in one place, on an organized packing list, will guarantee a worry free wedding set up!

We hope that sharing this trick adds ease and organization to everyone involved in setting-up and tearing down on your big day!

Whimsical Backyard Wedding: Anastasia & Eric Married!

Happy Thursday Friends!

I just love when we get to share a simply gorgeous backyard wedding with you, and today you are in for a real treat! A year has passed since Anastasia & Eric tied the knot, and from the beginning of the planning and design stages, I knew that it would turn out to be one of my favorites of 2013. I still find myself wandering over to their photos and swooning (captured, quite fabulously, by Dennis Kwan Photography)! And to make our love for this wedding grow even deeper, we were super excited when Grey Likes Weddings agreed with our high opinion of Annie & Eric’s soiree and recently did a feature of their wedding on the blog. Huzzah!

The love-birds’ hosted their fete at Eric’s parents’ home. We worked with the couple and vendor team to build the whole thing from scratch. We wanted the entire celebration to have a sense of progression throughout the evening, all while still feeling easy and naturally gorgeous. The couple hosted a simple, intimate ceremony that beautifully integrated elements of both their cultures and religions. They said their “I-do’s” under a chuppah in the neighbor’s backyard garden. The flowers and decor were designed to feel natural, lush, and plant-like.

Once they were officially wed, guests were invited to join the couple for cocktails next door, as they were welcomed by the sound of a Caribbean drum band. Again the feeling of Caribbean ease was brought into the home’s front yard through the menu and aesthetic design (think white, airy and spicy!).

Finally, the curtain separating the front yard from the back was drawn and the guests were transported into a whimsical backyard garden reception. Enchanted Gardens Floral Design used a mix of greenery, neutral flowers (with just the right amount of purple and coral pops), and even potted herbs to create and gorgeous, casually elegant table scape. We used bistro lighting, hung icicles from the many trees, and the couple even created their own signature “Homies Forever” marquee to transform a simple backyard into a land of enchantment (the couple made the ‘Homies’ sign together!). We found fun ways for the guests to find their seats and sign the guest book (hint, there is a piñata involved and the guests were invited to “pack it”). The couple gave away customized hot sauce and pashminas as favors. During their family style dinner feast, Anastasia’s mom surprised everyone with a group performing traditional Panamanian dances. Everyone danced until they dropped, and when they thought they could no longer go on, we brought in a taco truck to keep the party going. The next day people were telling the couple it was the “best wedding ever”, which is hands down one of the best compliments we could ever receive!
